How do you uncover threats and violence against witnesses—and link them to a multinational company—when the prosecution has closed the case?

When Swedish prosecutors in 2023 dropped the investigation into possible witness intimidation in the war crimes case against Ian Lundin and Alex Schneiter, journalists at TV 4s Kalla fakta launched their own investigation. The result was the award-winning documentary The Lundin Case – Silence Every Witness.

In this methods presentation, the team shows how, starting from a closed investigation and extensive court records, they used systematic research, timelines, network mapping, social media analysis and fieldwork in high-risk environments to uncover new connections.

The presentation offers concrete tools for working with complex legal processes, challenging sources, security assessments, and storytelling -  and demonstrates how journalism can fill the gap when the justice system stops.
